When we are struggling to engage in loving Jesus, one of the best things we can do is worship Him anyway. When we surrender our expectations and choose to trust Him, we find freedom and true joy despite our circumstances.
Sounds a lot easier said than done, right?
It can be difficult to mentally, emotionally, or even spiritually worship Jesus sometimes.
That is when I know I need to physically put my body into a posture of worship. The Bible shows us a few examples of how God’s people would do this:
- Kneeling: “Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!” Psalm 95:6
- Laying Prostrate (face down): “And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God.” Revelation 7:11
- Raising Hands: “So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands” Psalm 63:4
When I learned to move through different worshipful poses, I sensed something “unlocked” in my adoration of the Lord. For me, Moving Meditation serves as a tangible way to worship, even when the rest of me feels disengaged or discouraged.
Each pose is a reminder to keep choosing worship. To keep choosing Christ.
Why aren’t you on YouTube?
Producing the videos directly onto my site allows me the financial freedom to add music to the videos, connect personally with the audience, and prioritize more videos (without navigating algorithms) to grow the ministry!
Is “Moving Meditation” just a different name for yoga?
In some ways, yes. The word “yoga” means “yoked.” Jesus encouraged Christians to be yoked, or connected, to Him (Matt 11:29). Moving your body is one way you can connect with Christ and “love the Lord with all your strength.” (Luke 10:27)
In the important ways, no. Moving Meditation is NOT “yoga” because you are not encouraged to “yoke” with yourself as the highest power, or any other deity, goddess, or concept (such as empowerment or love), as you may have seen or experienced in yoga classes.
How did you get into Moving Meditation?
I began this journey in 2014. I was pregnant with twins and attended a prenatal yoga class to help with the intense back pain. I found that engaging in the poses transformed my ability to focus during my quiet time with the Lord.
After that, I explored yoga-type movements on my own and began researching yoga extensively. When some dark concepts began to rise the surface in my research, I knew I didn’t want to associate with “yoga.” I quit it all, cold turkey.
Within weeks, however, I missed the movement, the stretching, and the ability to still my mind through a breath+movement flow.
After months of prayer and fasting, the Holy Spirit gave me clarity. I realized that no religion or group can “own” a physical posture. The postures and breathing exercises offers vast physical benefits. I believe these can be redeemed spiritually to be a gift for those of us seeking to keep our relationship with Jesus fresh and invigorating.
In 2018 I began offering Moving Meditation classes once a month. The class size and demand for more grew throughout the next 2 years. So, in 2020, I pursued instructor certification through a Christ-centered organization called Holy Yoga.
I now produce videos and lead in-person classes at Christian retreats and churches. Click the button below to browse the library of Moving Meditation classes.
I look forward to sharing this ministry with more of God’s beloved people, equipping all to grow in Christ. For each step of this journey, my upward desire is to honor and glorify Jesus, the initiator of all movement through faith by grace to get closer to our Good Father.
Do you offer live classes?
